The window to avoid absolutely is Chinese New Year in late January or February, when the market and its factories close for two to three weeks.
The Two Good Windows and Why They Work
Yiwu is open 365 days a year from 09:00 to 17:00, so the question is never whether the market is trading. It is whether the booths are stocked, the factories behind them are running, and new designs are on the shelf.

The Dates to Avoid
- Chinese New Year, late January or February The market and most factories close for two to three weeks. Suppliers are unreachable and production restarts slowly for another fortnight afterwards.
- The two weeks before any major holiday Booths run stock down deliberately and lead times quoted in that period are unreliable.
- Golden Week in early October The first days of October are a national holiday; the market itself may trade but factory visits are difficult.
- Deep summer, July and August Trading is normal but the heat and humidity make full floor days genuinely punishing.

Factory towns around Yiwu are a separate day, not a lunchtime detour.
Getting There
Yiwu is easy to reach by high-speed rail, which is usually faster and more reliable than flying into a regional airport.

Case: The Trip That Landed in the Wrong Fortnight
The team booked flights for early February without checking the lunar calendar and arrived four days before Chinese New Year. Half the booths were already shuttered and every factory they wanted to visit had stopped. We moved what we could to video walkthroughs, but the trip lost most of its value.
